It’s better to work smarter, not harder. A great way to do that is giving your children … power. The power to take control of their time and to design their schedule.
It takes 10 minutes per week.
Each Sunday, your child can take 10 minutes to plan for the week ahead.
This can be done in 3 easy steps:
1. Preview
Preview means your child looks at his or her schedule for the week and asks good questions:
a- What are the priorities for the week?
It could be a variety of things like upcoming exams, a dance recital, or a sports game. Know what’s important to your child!
b- When should the priorities be done?
Priorities are more important that other things so your child should “book in” the time to focus on them. Your child’s schedule should not just be in his or her head! It should be on a phone, planner, or something physical.
2. Review
Review involves taking a step back and looking at the updated schedule. Are there any other schedule changes that would be good to make for the week?
Let’s say your daughter is planning to sleepover a friend’s house on Sunday night and has a test on Monday. When thinking about it, your daughter realizes she will be exhausted and won’t be able to focus. So she chooses to go to her friend’s house on Saturday night instead.
By being thoughtful and playing out one’s schedule, you child can still do the things he or she wants in a much more effective way.
3. Do It!
You child can simply look at the schedule and follow it!
By designing a schedule, your child will have the power to be thoughtful with time.
Your child will be able to look at time with intention.
Thus, your child will be able to make choices proactively, not reactively.
